เมื่อทับทิมได้ยินคำว่า “แมว” เธอจะเห็นสีดำเมื่อได้ยินคำว่า “ผู้หญิง” เธอจะเห็นสีม่วง คำว่า “ทหาร” เป็นสีส้ม และคำว่า “รัก” ทำให้เห็นสีแดง อาการนี้ชื่อว่า ซินเนสธีเซีย ปกติทุกคำจะมีสีของมันไม่เคยเปลี่ยน แต่เมื่อทับทิมได้พบกับหยก คำว่า “รัก” ของเขากลับทำให้เธอเห็นสีอื่นอย่างน่าประหลาดใจ
